The Unique Unattempted Question Penalty
Unlike almost any other competitive exam in India, XAT penalizes examinees who leave large numbers of questions unattempted:
- Candidates are allowed to skip up to 8 questions with zero penalty.
- Beginning with the 9th unattempted question, a deduction of -0.10 marks per unattempted question is applied across Part 1.
- While smaller than the -0.25 penalty for a wrong answer, skipping 30 questions results in a net deduction of 2.20 marks—often enough to shift your percentile by 2 to 3 points.

XAT Unique Question Structure & Unattempted Question Penalties
